information by Standartnews Daily

The economic capital of Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City is willing to become the twin of Bulgarian capital Sofia, became clear during the meeting of BG President Rosen Plevneliev with the President of the National Council of the Asian city Le Hoang Quan.

Ho Chi Minh is the city of business and produces a quarter of the GDP of the country. It hosts business clusters with a concentration of the offices of the major domestic and foreign corporations.

Twinning of the two cities would help a lot for the friendship between our two countries, the Bulgarian President said. At present, besides already having Bratislava as its twin, Ho Chi Minh is also leading such discussions about twinning with Prague and Budapest, as a result of the Asian power's serious economic interests in the region.

Ho Chi Minh City, formerly named Saigon, is the largest city in Vietnam, populated by more than 9,000,000 people. The city's population is expected to grow to 13.9 million in 2025.

By the end of 2012, the city's GDP was estimated around USD 28,595 billion, or about USD 3,700 per capita, up 9.2% from 2011.Total trade (export and import) reached USD 47.7 billion, with export at USD 21.57 billion and import USD 26.14 billion.
