Mobiltel blankets 3 Bulgarian cities with WiMax
Dnevnik daily
Mobiltel, Bulgaria's dominant wireless telecom carrier, has announced the technical rollout of its wireless broadband network in Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv.
The network, enabled by Siemens base stations, will soon cover Burgas, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Ruse and Bansko as well.
Mobiltel said it is not ready to say how the new service will be packaged or priced.
The broadband connection will be initially marketed to business customers.
The other holders of WiMax permits are also making progress on the deployment of their networks.
Nexcom Bulgaria said the technical start of its network happened 1.5 months ago. The company plans to blanket Sofia and 10 of the other big cities.
Trans Telecom is installing base stations and aims for a technical start in late October.
Israel's Alvarion supplies WiMax technology to both Nexcom and Trans Telecom.
Local company Cablenet is also licensed to provide wireless broadband.
